Fractional CIO and CTO leadership for technology decisions that cannot wait

Former group CIO Neil Adamson helps CEOs, boards and executive teams close technology leadership gaps, recover difficult programmes and make high-stakes supplier, technology and AI investment decisions.

How I help

When a fractional CIO or CTO is the right next step

These are the situations where independent executive technology judgement is usually more useful than another delivery team.

01

A CIO or CTO role is vacant, changing or not yet justified.

02

A major programme or supplier relationship has lost executive confidence.

03

A technology, platform or operating-model decision cannot be deferred.

04

An AI or technology investment needs evidence and governance before scaling.

Executive advisory

Three ways I work with leadership teams

Focused senior support for leadership gaps, stressed delivery and high-stakes technology or AI investment decisions.

Fractional CIO/CTO and interim leadership

Accountable executive technology judgement while a permanent role is vacant, changing, or not yet justified.

Commercial and delivery recovery

Defined interventions where programmes, obligations, suppliers or contractual positions have lost executive confidence.

Technology and AI investment assurance

Independent evidence, governance and decision support before a platform, supplier or AI investment is scaled.

How I work

The shape of the mandate is agreed first

Engagements are fractional, interim, part-time, advisory or fixed-scope. Each one is defined around the decision, leadership gap or recovery that cannot wait.

Charts and analysis being reviewed during an executive technology discussion

Fractional

Ongoing senior technology leadership for a defined portion of executive time, without a permanent appointment.

Interim

Cover for a vacant or transitioning CIO or CTO role while the organisation decides what permanent capacity it needs.

Part-time

Retained executive judgement for boards and leadership teams that need a senior counterpart, not a full-time hire.

Advisory

Independent support for a specific strategy, supplier, platform, governance or investment decision.

Fixed-scope

A bounded recovery, assurance or roadmap mandate with a clear start, evidence base and decision outcome.

Neil provides executive leadership and assurance. Implementation responsibilities and delivery partners are agreed explicitly for each mandate.

Representative work

Experience applied to complex decisions

Public, anonymised examples of fractional leadership, delivery recovery and AI investment assurance.
